Higher Education Commission Higher Education Aptitude Test (HAT) Mandatory for ALL HEC Scholarships & Postgraduate Programs

    The Higher Education Commission (HEC), through the Education Testing Council (ETC), will administer the Higher Education Aptitude Test (HAT) for the selection of candidates for all HEC scholarships and admission to MS/MPhil and PhD programs. This initiative aims to ensure a uniform, accessible, and transparent selection process.

    Who Should Apply for HAT?

    The HAT is designed for applicants who:

    • Have submitted online applications for MS/MPhil and PhD admissions or HEC scholarships via the E-portal.
    • Plan to apply for future scholarship schemes, including those offered by HEC-sponsored Pakistani Universities.
    • Seek admission to MS/MPhil & PhD programs in both public and private universities in Pakistan.

    HAT Versions Based on Academic Streams:

    The test will be conducted in five categories based on 16 years of education or equivalent. Applicants should register according to their academic discipline:

    1. HAT 1:
      • Disciplines: Engineering & Technology, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics
      • Test Breakup: Analytical Reasoning (30%), Quantitative Reasoning (30%), Verbal Reasoning (40%)
    2. HAT 2:
      • Disciplines: Management Sciences, Business Education
      • Test Breakup: Analytical Reasoning (30%), Quantitative Reasoning (40%), Verbal Reasoning (30%)
    3. HAT 3:
      • Disciplines: Arts and Humanities, Social Sciences, Psychology (Clinical & Applied), Law
      • Test Breakup: Analytical Reasoning (40%), Quantitative Reasoning (35%), Verbal Reasoning (25%)
    4. HAT 4:
      • Disciplines: Agriculture & Veterinary Sciences, Biological & Medical Sciences, Physical Sciences, Education, Media & Mass Communication
      • Test Breakup: Analytical Reasoning (40%), Quantitative Reasoning (30%), Verbal Reasoning (30%)
    5. HAT-General:
      • Disciplines: Religious Studies (Madrasa Graduates)
      • Test Breakup: Analytical Reasoning (40%), Quantitative Reasoning (30%), Verbal Reasoning (30%)

    Applicants must select the appropriate category when filling out the online form. Test scores will be valid for two years for scholarships and admissions in MS/MPhil & PhD programs.

    Date of Examination: The test is tentatively scheduled for May 26, 2024. Any changes will be communicated through http://hec.gov.pk and http://etc.hec.gov.pk.

    Applicants who register online through HEC will receive their Roll Number Slip via email and can download it from http://etc.hec.gov.pk a week before the test. Email/SMS notifications will also be sent regarding the test date, time, and venue. Applicants must provide valid email/mobile numbers during the application process.

    A printout of the Roll Number Slip and original CNIC will be required for entry to the Test Centre on the Test Day.

    Application Process:

    • Only SUBMITTED applications will be considered for the HAT Test.
    • The test fee of Rs. 2000/- should be deposited via 1Link 1 Bill Invoice Banking/Easypaisa/JazzCash/Upaisa.
    • After selecting Link 1Bill Invoice payment service, applicants should follow the instructions provided for payment.
    • Once the fee is deposited through 1 Link 1 Bill Invoice, candidates must verify the online payment on the ETC Dashboard.
    • The test fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.

    Note: Possession of mobile phones or any electronic calculating, recording, or imaging devices inside the test center is strictly prohibited. Uploading or sharing images of the question book is also prohibited and may result in penalties according to ETC rules.
